Help Your Kids Learn Math Through Cooking

Cooking with your kids can be a fun way to introduce them to basic math principles. Small children can practice counting by measuring the cups of flour needed or by counting the correct number of eggs.

Kids can practice addition and multiplication, depending on their skill level, by doubling or tripling recipes. To start, give your child a copy of the recipe and ask him to write out the measurements for each ingredient. Once your child is able to do this easily, let him do the calculations in his head while measuring.

When your child brings home a C on their report card, then you might feel like panicking. You might wonder why your child is not fully understanding their school work. They are passing, but you know that they can do better. The important thing is to stay calm and talk with your child. With the advent of standardized testing in the education community, more children than ever before are suffering from test taking anxiety. There are a few measures you can take to reduce child anxiety while test taking.

For parents and teachers alike, prepare the children for the test beforehand. This includes informing the children that a test will be taken in the near future. Often, if children know a test is approaching, they are better able to manage the anxiety. Unexpected and surprise testing causes a greater amount of stress in children than a test that is planned.
